Holiday Cocktails mishaps

Trials and moderately successful versions of a Cranberry Gin Sparkling cocktail and a Bourbon, Mint and Grapefruit cocktail. They look very pretty though, don't they?

So, I had full intentions of posting a delicious holiday-worthy cocktail. I’ve been working with several recipes for weeks now, trying to find the best combination of flavors, without too many complicated ingredients. However, for as much as I’ve experimented and trialed, I just can’t seem to nail the perfect holiday beverage. Something is always just a little bit off.

While I continue to mix away, I did want to share 3 links to some great cocktails that I put together for my work holiday party. Some were punch recipes and others I just increased quantities to make into punch form. All were great hits- pitchers were being tilted to get the last drops out!

This Bourbon Punch with Mint and Grapefruit from Bon Appetit was very delicious and not too sweet- something I was looking for as lots of punches can end up being overly fruity and sweet, with no real distinct flavors. As of yet I have had less success turning this punch into an individual cocktail but I'm going to keep trying!

Another crowd favorite, was this Pomegranate Moscow Mule. While the recipe makes 2, it was really easy to multiply into punch format. It also wasn't overly sweet and the ginger beer addition gave it a nice kick. I highly recommend trying it out!

The final punch, again another 2-serving cocktail that I made into punch quantities, was this delicious Spiced Apple Cider Champagne recipe. This recipe was so simple, a little sweet, and perfect for the holiday season. We couldn't find the Jack Daniels Tennessee Cider, nor the Laird's Apple Brandy but ended up getting Crown Royal's Regal Apple flavored Whiskey. While I wouldn't recommend buying this to drink on it's own (it's very candy apple-y), it was a nice addition to this punch.

Any favorite holiday cocktails? I've had a recipe for mulled wine that I'd like to give a try this Christmas. In the mean time I'll keep mixing away and hope to share some great cocktail successes very soon!

cheers!
