Vanilla Honey Pear Cocktail

Inspiration can come from many sources and this holiday-ready cocktail was born from the succulent looking photos of fresh pears in the Harry and David holiday catalog. Gifting a box of pears may seem a little strange but the beautiful images got me to thinking about how much I love pears. While apples take the star role in the fall/winter fruit rotation, the smooth and subtlety sweet flavors of pear are a perfect ingredient for this seasons cooking and cocktail concoctions. This drink would probably taste best with freshly juiced pears but as I don’t have a juicer (or the patience for it) I picked up a bottle of pear juice from the grocery store. Vanilla is a perfect complement to pear so I also grabbed a bottle of Middle West Spirits Honey Vanilla Bean Vodka. The splurge on liquor doesn’t hurt so much when you know you’re supporting a local business! Together these 2 ingredients make for a sweet and tasty cocktail. Accented with a cinnamon sugar rim and a few fresh slices of pear, this drink is sure to please all your holiday guests! Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Vanilla Honey Pear Cocktail

makes 1 delicious drink- this could easily be multiplied and made into a pitcher drink

3-4 oz. of fresh or bottled pear juice/nectar

1.5-2 oz. of OYO Honey Vanilla Bean Vodka (Vanilla flavored vodka will also work)

ice

slices of fresh pear (I used Bosc pears)

lemon wedge

sugar and cinnamon

To make:

  1. In a cocktail shaker add the pear juice and vodka with a couple cubes of ice. Shake to combine.

  2. Wet the rim of an old fashioned glass with the lemon wedge and dip into a plate of sugar and cinnamon. Fill the glass with fresh ice and pour over your pear/vodka mix.

  3. Garnish with fresh slices of pear and enjoy! To temper the sweetness try adding a squeeze of lemon juice. To lighten up the drink you can make this in a Collins glass and add a splash of club soda.

Fresh, local ingredients always make for a winning cocktail!

I highly recommend giving this drink a try! If you don't have vanilla vodka on-hand you could always sub-in the vanilla flavor with a vanilla bean or make a vanilla infused simple syrup. For those in Ohio I also recommend trying the OYO Honey Vanilla Bean vodka. Check out Middle West Spirits website for great ideas on other ways to use this vodka!

Cheers!
