87th Annual Academy Awards

Our first Academy Awards event!

Our first Academy Awards event!

Amanda and I hosted our first Academy Awards party our senior year in college, mostly as an excuse I think to take a much needed break from school for a day. Neither of us had really seen any of the nominated movies but the star-studded event provided us with a perfect opportunity to craft pretty invitations, ballots, and a step-and-repeat and play host to all of our friends in fancy attire. It was such a fun evening that I decided to carry on the tradition when I moved to Columbus. While this years Academy Awards have found me unprepared to host, (February really snuck up on me!) I thought it would be fun to share a delicious cocktail that is a perfect partner to a night of food, friends, and red-carpet drama. Additionally Amanda has designed a lovely little ballot that you are free to use the night of the event to keep track of all the winners! Throw in a little prize for the guest with the most correct guesses and you'll be sure to keep your friends engaged throughout the whole show, rooting for all their selections!

And the Oscar goes to... the French Martini!

And the Oscar goes to... the French Martini!

The French Martini is a classic for a reason- it's a simple melody of 3 ingredients that when combined create a perfectly balanced beverage. It's simplicity lends itself well to party situations and the delicate flavors of the cocktail pair well with sweet treats and cheeses. I like to print out several easy cocktail recipes and put them in a small frame by my bar setup so my guests can easily craft their own cocktails throughout the evening.

French Martini

1-1/2 oz. Vodka

1/2 oz. Chambord (raspberry liqueur)

1-1/2 oz. Pineapple Juice

Combine all of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a lemon twist if you'd like. That's it!

Whether you're hosting a large group of friends to watch the Academy Awards this year or plan on watching them solo in your pajamas, we hope you have a great night, filled with lots of fun and a few good cocktails!

Cheers!
