What a crazy busy and fun week this has been! Amanda was in Chicago for NeoCon, a commercial interiors show that brings together an exhibition of new product launches with educational seminars and presentations from industry and business experts. She'll be sharing some of what she saw and heard next week! While Amanda was finding inspiration in Chi-town I was working on my very first Pinewood Derby car with a fabulous team of crafty ladies from work. This particular Pinewood Derby race was put on by CSCA- the Columbus Society of Communicating Arts-who was celebrating their 10th year of hosting this fun event which supports their Student Scholarship fund. Over 20 designers (and a few family members) entered the race with "cars" that ranged from the whimsical to the seriously refined. We kept our design rather simple, (considering we only had 1 night to make the whole thing,) and decided on a curvy car shape which we created with a jigsaw and a lot of sanding and filing down. After crafting the wood we added a little bling in the form of gold spray paint, silver leaf, and a piece of broken car glass from Angela's broken-into car window (a total bummer for her but at least nothing was taken!) Our last minute, late night efforts got us into the semi-finals at the derby and one of our coworkers took home first place with his sweet ride! The whole night was a lot of fun! I highly recommend looking for a Pinewood derby race in your area or starting up your own event among friends!
Have a great weekend!
