What to watch this summer

I promised myself at the beginning of summer that after work I wouldn't cave to my normal routine of dinner and Netflix (and lets be honest a glass of wine or three.) I even re-downloaded the "Couch to 5k" app on my phone in the hopes that maybe this summer I would learn to like running. Sadly old habits die hard and my running shoes are no where to be found. In my defense, this summer has seemingly been a never-ending rain shower and work has been unrelenting as always. It's Monsoon Season in Ohio- what's a girl to do? It's my excuse and I'm sticking with it!

Make the best of rainy summer days and check out some of these great movies and TV series now showing on Netflix:

Amelie is one of my go-to feel good films that I can't help watching again and again. It's quirky collection of characters and exuberant soundtrack courtesy of Yann Tiersen make it perfect for a gloomy day when you need a little cheering up.

Netflix's Chef's Table takes you behind the scenes into some of the world's best restaurants, introducing you to 6 of today's top culinary whizzes. Each episode focuses on the life, passions and creativity that each chef brings to their kitchen. Foodie or not, this 6 episode series is worth watching!

Man on Wire documents tightrope walker Philippe Petit's daring and definitely illegal high-wire act performed in 1974 between NYC's World Trade Center towers. Despite knowing the eventual outcome, the documentary draws you in with its suspenseful, exhilarating presentation of Petit's dance in the sky. Watch the real act now and then catch Joseph Gordon-Levitt this fall playing Petit in The Walk.

A summer cult classic- Wet Hot American Summer- is a silly rom-com spoof that takes you through the final days at a fictional summer camp in 1981. Watch the original on Netflix now and tune in on July 31st for Netflix's own Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp series. They've assembled the full star-studded cast from the original film, including Paul Rudd, Janeane Garofalo, Bradley Cooper, and Amy Poehler, to play in this prequel which shows the camp earlier in the same summer of the original. Sure to be full of laughs!

Hopefully you've already watched Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt but if not watch it immediately! If you have seen this amazing comedy series written by Tina Fey watch it again! The characters are fantastic, the writing is spot-on and the show has a lot of heart. The opening credits alone make the show a must-see.

I would be remiss if I didn't include at least one crime-caper show in my list of shows to watch. White Collar wrapped it's final, sixth season and the whole series is now on Netflix for your viewing pleasure. Gorgeous Matt Bomer plays a white collar criminal who helps the FBI catch other white collar criminals in exchange for staying out of jail. It's a smart and funny take on the buddy-cop genre and worth watching rainy day or not.

What are you watching this summer? Any must-sees now on Neflix that you're excited about?

Let's hope for sunny days ahead- but in the mean time enjoy a little couch time with one of these films or shows on Netflix!
