Grapefruit Gin Mule

A very long week deserves a very good drink- don’t you think? While I am all about crafting up complex cocktails, most nights a simple 2 to 3 ingredient drink is about all I can muster. And if it doesn’t involve a cocktail shaker, muddler, or anything additional that I would have to later wash all the better- I hate doing the dishes.

After any party or get-together I inevitably have leftover food and half-drunk bottles of juice and soda mixers. Not wanting anything to go to waste, I have to sometimes get a little creative with what I have in my fridge. Such is the case this week, where I still have a decent amount of mixers and lemons and limes from my Academy Awards party (I always buy too much.) And so a tasty new drink concoction is born- the Grapefruit Gin Mule! The slightly herbal flavors of gin pairs so well with the tart-sweet flavors of fresh grapefruit and when combined with a sparkling wine or soda it makes for a perfect 3-ingredient cocktail. To create a more complex (and tasty!) drink I subbed in a neutral flavored sparkle for tangy ginger beer and a dash of lime juice.

Ok- it’s 4 ingredients, but it’s incredibly simple to make, especially if you’ve purchased fresh-squeezed juices. If you’re a fan of the Moscow Mule or anything with gin then you’ve got to give this a try! This would work great as a tasty brunch cocktail or for sipping on before or after dinner. Really anytime!
